Language is important and the word retreat became somewhat of a debate in our boardroom (and by boardroom I mean on the balcony of our location in San Mateo, Costa Rica, overlooking the stunning sunrise over the mountains). The concern was that the word ‘retreat,’ historically associated with a military withdrawal after a defeat, might inadvertently suggest to attendees that it’s acceptable to avoid their challenges rather than confronting them directly. For those seeking to reconcile serious trauma during a psychedelic journey, the most transformational outcomes are achieved through facing the trauma head-on, not by avoiding it.
Regardless, the word ‘retreat’ has become a popular catch-all for any activity that provides participants with much-needed downtime, often including meditation, prayer, yoga, and more recently, psychedelic journeys. These activities are typically far more beneficial when experienced away from the distractions of ‘normal’ life. With this in mind, we came to accept the word ‘retreat’ and took it a step further. We decided that with the help of mind-altering substances and experiences, it is the retreat of the ego that ultimately allows for spiritual healing.
We offer individual and group retreats in Costa Rica, as well as various cities in North America. Please note that due to the involvement of psychedelic substances, legality is a factor in choosing locations. If you are looking for our services in a particular region, please reach out to us directly.
