(not too much, not too little… but juuuuuuusssst riiiiiight!)
Finding the perfect dose is a very important part of any microdosing protocol. While the right dose can elicit a calm, peaceful, connected feeling, the wrong dose can do the exact opposite, and have you feeling on edge. Without solid coaching and advice many microdosers may quit, assuming mushrooms simply don’t work for them.
Our Goldilocks Protocol
We have various dosages in each of our mushroom strains to help you find your sweet spot; your ‘Goldilocks dose’. We recommend starting with a very low amount, which we expect to illicit no notable changes. This is still a great chance to make sure there are no food sensitivities to whichever strain you are taking.
A microdose is typically a tenth or even a twentieth of a ‘recreational’ dose. Micro dosages normally range from 50mg to 250mg. The Goldilocks dose is different for everyone… it will not make you feel ‘high’ or uncomfortable, and any changes should be almost imperceptible. Much like falling in love; impossible to describe or develop a formula, but you’ll know when you’re there.
Finding your Goldilocks Dose:
This process is fairly straightforward but does involve some beta testing and pushing past your comfort zone. Our goal is to find a dose that allows us to feel great and still function comfortably, ideally in a flow state.
Journaling at this stage is highly recommended. I really like the “How we Feel” app, which has nothing to do with microdosing but is really quick and simple. There is also an app called “Dose“, and for those who are willing to take just a bit of extra time to contribute to research, the “Quantified Citizen” app by microdose.me.
Naturally, the process involves some trial and error, but the approach is consistent: tweaking, journaling, and experimenting until you find your perfect dose. Inevitably, this means that at least once, you will take a bit too much. This step is essential to understanding your personal limits. If you’re still not entirely sure whether you’ve noticed a difference, look back through your journal and/or ask yourself these questions:
- Do I feel more present in my body?
- Do I wake up feeling rejuvenated?
- Is my pet showing more affection lately?
- Did I skip having road rage today?
- Is my yoga/breathwork/meditation practice feeling more balanced?
- Am I more relaxed and enthusiastic overall?
- Has my ability to focus improved?
- Have strangers given me compliments recently?
- Are cravings or bad habits reduced?
- Have I easily adopted a new habit?
- Do I find myself singing or whistling more often?
- Are my OCD/ADHD symptoms more manageable lately?
- Have my loved ones commented on my improved mood?
- Am I feeling more buoyant and capable of handling life in general?
- Did I return to using my pen/paintbrush/musical instrument after a long break?
How will I know if the dosage is too high?
Well it’s different for everyone, but in general you will feel ‘off’. If you’ve ever pushed your coffee limit, it may be comparable to that feeling. This may present in anxiety, nausea, restlessness, shakiness or even digestive discomfort.
If you feel that you’ve taken too much, the sensation may last anywhere from thirty minutes to a few hours. If this happens, try grounding yourself by eating something, lying down, taking a walk, journaling, making art, or listening to music. Remember, this experience isn’t negative; it’s an essential part of finding your optimal dose. By tracking these effects, you’ve discovered your threshold, which is a valuable insight. Now that you know your limit, consider it a positive step in your journey.
How can I find my Goldilocks Dose?
Most people don’t already have various microdose capsules and a milligram scale kicking around, nor do they wish to make such an unnecessary investment. We can help to guide you in your quest for the right strain and dose. Our Goldilocks pack is only $15 and typically includes dosages between 50 mg to 300 mg (depending on the strain). Feel free to complete our intake questionnaire and someone will be in touch with recommendations.
Above all else, please always keep in mind that any recommendations are just that: suggestions based on our research and experience. You are the author of your own healing. The path you take is yours to create, and each step forward is a testament to your strength and resilience.
“Healing may not be so much about getting better, as about letting go of everything that isn’t you—all of the expectations, all of the beliefs—and becoming who you are.”
– Rachel Naomi Remen
